Understanding Cerebellopontine Angle Tumors
- What Is a Cerebellopontine Angle Tumor?
-
A cerebellopontine angle tumor (also called a CPA tumor) develops in the cerebellopontine angle, the area between your lower brain and your brain stem — and the part of the brain connected to your spinal cord.
Usually, CPA tumors are benign (non-cancerous). However, left untreated, they may cause nerve damage and compress your brain stem.
- What Are the Symptoms of a CPA Tumor?
-
In most cases, hearing loss in one ear, along with tinnitus (ringing in the ears), are the first symptoms of a cerebellopontine angle tumor. Other symptoms of a CPA tumor can include problems with speech or balance, loss of muscle control and tremors.
- How Is a CPA Tumor Treated?
-
Surgery is usually the standard treatment for CPA tumors. Our team offers a wide range of innovative brain surgeries that use minimally invasive technology in many cases.
While CPA tumors are often difficult to reach with traditional surgical approaches, our techniques allow us to remove affected tissue with extreme precision and without incisions.
As a result, we minimize disruption to healthy brain tissue. For you, the procedures mean less surgical risk and a faster recovery. Most importantly, they may allow you to return to living your best life.
