Discover Non-Operative Weight Loss Solutions
We understand how difficult it can be to lose weight. Maybe you’ve tried all the diets and exercise plans without success, and you don’t qualify for weight loss surgery. If that sounds familiar and you’re looking for a safe, effective, minimally invasive option with proven results, an endoscopic weight loss procedure may be right for you.
At the AdventHealth Center for Interventional Endoscopy, we collaborate with specialists to provide you with a tailored weight loss solution. Our multidisciplinary team consists of a nutritionist, food coach or dietitian, endocrinologist, medical weight loss physician and weight loss surgeons. We’re one of the few centers in the country to offer a full spectrum of endoscopic weight loss options, and we’re committed to helping you reach your goals.

Our Endoscopic Weight Loss Procedures
Endoscopic weight loss procedures are non-operative (no surgical incisions or cuts on the skin), minimally invasive, outpatient procedures performed with an endoscope. An endoscope is a thin, flexible tube that is inserted through the mouth into the stomach while under sedation.
The procedures are clinically effective and safe, and most patients return home the same day.

Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty Procedure (ESG)
The ESG procedure requires no incisions or cuts and uses a suturing device mounted on an endoscope to reduce the size of the stomach. As a result, you eat less, feel full faster and stay full longer. This results in significant weight loss (up to 20% of your body weight).
It is the endoscopic equivalent of a surgical gastroplasty without the need for surgery. Because it is a minimally invasive procedure, the side effects and risks are lower than traditional surgery. Recovery is also quicker. Most patients are discharged on the same day. Like with all weight loss interventions (surgical or endoscopic), a commitment to lifestyle changes will help ensure long-term success and lasting weight loss.
In addition to weight loss, ESG is effective in lowering blood sugar levels and blood pressure, and may help with other weight-related problems like fatty liver disease or sleep apnea.
Endoscopic Balloon Therapy
An endoscope is used to place a soft balloon filled with liquid into the stomach. Because the balloon occupies space in the stomach, it helps you feel full faster.
The balloon is typically removed endoscopically after six to eight months. Most patients will lose 30 to 50 pounds within three months of balloon placement. The balloon can be removed at any time and does not change the shape of the stomach.
This is an ideal solution for quick weight loss.

Transoral Outlet Reduction (TORe)
The TORe procedure is an endoscopic procedure (no incisions or cuts on the skin) meant to treat patients with weight gain after a surgical gastric bypass. Weight gain after a gastric bypass typically occurs over time and is caused by loosening or stretching of the gastric outlet (the connection between the stomach and small intestine). This allows food to pass into the small intestine rapidly and results in weight gain.
The TORe procedure restores the outlet to its previous postoperative state. This is accomplished using an endoscope and suturing device. The endoscope is passed through the mouth into the stomach, and sutures are placed to tighten and reduce the size of the gastric outlet. This restores the feeling of fullness after eating and helps you lose weight again.
In many ways, it is the endoscopic equivalent of a surgical revision without the need for surgery. Because it is a minimally invasive procedure, side effects and risks are lower than surgery, and the recovery is quicker. It is performed like other endoscopic procedures, and most patients are discharged on the same day.
Like with all weight loss interventions (surgical or endoscopic), a commitment to lifestyle changes will help ensure long-term success and lasting weight loss.
Endoscopic Revision of Sleeve Gastrectomy
Sleeve in sleeve (SIS): This procedure is for patients who experience weight regain after surgical or endoscopic gastric sleeves. Weight regain is typically caused by the stomach stretching out over time. An endoscopic suturing device restores the sleeve to its original state. This helps you start to lose weight again, much like after the original operation.
Answering Your Endoscopic Weight Loss Questions
-
Q:Question: Who is an ideal candidate for endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty (ESG) and endoscopic balloon therapy?
A:Answer:We will evaluate you to determine if endoscopic weight loss procedures are right for you.
Candidates should meet the following criteria:

- BMI of 35 to 40 without comorbidities
- Patient does not want surgery and their BMI is less than 50
- Insurance exclusions for bariatric surgery

Patients with a history of bariatric surgery who regain weight and seek revision procedures should ideally have a BMI of less than 50.
We offer transoral outlet and pouch reduction for patients with Roux-en-Y. We also offer sleeve-in-sleeve (SIS) for patients who have had a laparoscopic sleeve gastroplasty and have regained weight. These procedures are usually covered by insurance.

Q:Question: Does insurance cover endobariatric procedures?
A:Answer:Not all insurance plans cover intragastric balloon and endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty procedures. The AdventHealth Center for Interventional Endoscopy offers self-pay package prices to cover the cost when insurance is unavailable.
